Vick Getting Imus'd?

Atlanta Falcon's quarterback Micheal Vick was indicted this week for his alleged involvement in pit bull breeding and fighting. No surprise. Vick's a thug and pit bull fighting is the current entertainment of choice for the royalty of the hip hop culture's thugocracy. But...why stop at picking on Vick? Radio shock jock Don Imus was fired earlier this year for derogatory comments about basketball-playing women that were no worse than comments made by hundreds of other on-air personalities. For a while, there was a feeble attempt to go after the other smear merchants. That effort is now quiet as a churchmouse. Vick is only the biggest name to be publicly associated with pit bull fighting. Tens of thousands of lesser thugs do it every day with umpunity and very little effort to put a stop to this monstrous practice. If Vick is guilty, let him be nailed and jailed. But don't stop there. People with any sense or sensibility (sorry, Jane Austen) about this so-called "sport" should be pursued as vigorously as Vick. The only good ending for this story is a permanent end to dog fighting in our own back yards.

Unfortunately, actual dog fighting isn't all Vick's been indicted for...If you read the indictment it includes wetting a dog down and shocking it to death, hanging dogs, and other sickening acts of cruelty. These acts shock people when they are done to dogs and other domesticated pets, but the same things happen to farm animals raised for food all the time, but, despite efforts of concerned parties to bring these acts to light, no one really cares until a star QB does something to man's best friend. I think people are much more worried about what going to happen to the Falcons upcoming season than they are about animals. The whole thing is sad and a product of our society's attitudes towards animals as a whole.

Even a subtle comparison for Don Imus to Michael Vick is very insulting to me. Mr. Imus has a heart of gold and helps children with cancer, SIDS research, the cause of autism...he brought the Walter Reed mess to our attention, he got benefits changed for military persons, etc. Michael Vick is a poor excuse for a human being and he should rot in jail. ANYONE mean to animals is the lowest person there is in my opinion. He's a member of the NFL for crying out loud. He should be a role model for young people and a person of integrity. What a horrible "man" he is and I will NEVER support him again nor will I support anyone even remotely affiliated with him (such as Nike)

Animal cruelty laws need to be tougher to get this to stop. It's sickening. And oh, by the way, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE do not mention this monster Vick and Don Imus in the same breath. It would be like comparing Mother Teresa to Hitler.

Your right: leave IMUS alone and focus on the horrors of the world. Dog Fighting needs to be stopped. What a nightmare we all live in on Planet Earth.

This article is posted on an Imus support website and so you may get some comments from the people who read that faithfully. Can't quite figure out why Imus name was put in alongside Vicks but I believe you were saying that Imus should have been left alone. At least I hope that is what you mean. Why pick on Imus? Michael Vick needs the book thrown at him in court.
